It is really great to have my own son read the book I spent years writing. Even if it is only pretend reading!
Paolo de Renzio of the International Budget Project wrote in the International Public Management Journal:
"Every now and then, a book emerges in the international development field that sheds new light on old debates, providing fresh insights and offering novel ways to think about some of the most pressing policy issues. In my view, Matt Andrews’new book belongs in this category. His diagnosis of why efforts to promote institutional reforms in developing countries have gone wrong, and some of the principles and tools that he proposes for how to deal with this issue, are likely to shape debates in this area for years to come—and indeed, they have already."
Philipp Krause of the Overseas Development Institute said in Development Policy Review:
"One may disagree with Andrews’ diagnosis or solution, but he is helping to open up a broad range of scholarship for development policy and research to exploit. Books like this one help break down the artificial boundaries between scholarship on developing countries on the one hand and OECD countries on the other. “The Limits of Institutional Reform” should be read by anyone working with governments in international development. Readers in rich countries will probably find it just as interesting a lens to view their own governments as well."
Any word on the paperback yet? I'm still not sure if I want the Kindle version if it's coming out soon.
